West Angeles’ Christian Education (WACE) classes are for anyone interested in using the principles of the Christian faith more effectively. The courses offered provide all levels of biblical study and are designed not only to serve those who are called to careers in ministry, but also to empower any Christian who wants to:

Live with purpose through the Word
Understand the Bible more thoroughly and how it relates to the times we live in
Improve their lives, their families’ lives, and the lives of others.

Classes offered through WACE are designed to help students create a deeper relationship with God, the church, and the Christian faith.

WEST ANGELES CHRISTIAN EDUCATION CLASSES

Taught in both the traditional classroom setting and online, courses offered through WACE are designed to help students to serve the church and the world through responsible imparting of biblical knowledge.

Sunday School – West Angeles’ Sunday School has introductory-level courses for children, youth, and adults which are designed to provide a deeper knowledge of the Christian faith. Geared to help students overcome life’s obstacles and daily issues, we offer a variety of classes for children ages 5-12 years of age, and for youth ages 12-16 years of age.

For adults 17 and older, West Angeles offers classes such as TruthSeekers Sunday School class taught by Elder U.C. Henderson, which meets each Sunday at 9 a.m. Truth Seekers does an extensive book-by-book study of the bible, discussing practical applications of God’s word in our lives, while encouraging conversations and questions of the subject being taught.

West Angeles TruthSeekers is looking for young adults who are seeking to empower their relationship with Jesus Christ, and who want to be built up in their knowledge of the gospel.

Practical Christian Living – Now that you are saved, where do you learn how to be a better Christian worker, parent, wife, or husband? The Practical Christian Living program is your answer. Designed for those who desire to become more effective as a parent, spouse, or worker for Christ, the School of Practical Christian Living is a mid-level study program that introduces systematic Bible study and foundational biblical knowledge.

Everyone tells us to study God’s word more often, but how does one go about studying the Bible? Practical Christian Living’s mission is to present a systematic, disciplined study of God’s Word and principles of Christian life on a non-technical level. PCL offers you an opportunity to study Bible subjects that you have always wondered about. Here, education is offered in a way that you can understand giving you the opportunity to quickly learn some values of Christian living.

Before getting started in the technical study of the Bible, it’s important to obtain a foundation of Biblical knowledge. Practical Christian Living offers several certificate courses of study to help you accomplish this goal. West Angeles Bible College provides college-level study in biblical, historical, and theological foundations of the Christian faith. This comprehensive training provides an academic understanding of the Bible to equip individuals to competently serve and apply the teachings of the gospel to the spiritual needs of those around them.

All adult Christian Education classes are at 3045 Crenshaw Boulevard (unless otherwise specified); children and youth classes are held at 3010 Crenshaw Boulevard at the West Angeles Youth Center.

West Angeles is regarded as one of the greatest churches in the country, but it’s also known for its educational ministry.

Every day, new developments in our society and around the world can inspire us to think more deeply about our beliefs, or even to question the daily decisions we make. Many of the issues which consume us may sometimes seem outside of our sphere of influence to solve. Whether political, economic, or social in nature, however, the answers can be found by growing closer to our faith.

Most of us probably take our understanding of Christian principles for granted. Yet, although we’ve all heard many times that renewing our minds will transform us (Romans 12:2), how many of us have considered doing so through guided biblical study? Maybe it’s time to make a change.

West Angeles’ Christian Education (WACE) classes are for anyone interested in using the principles of the Christian faith more effectively. “We are facing a world of distressing and disturbing issues,” says Presiding Bishop Charles E. Blake, Sr., who serves as Chancellor of the West Angeles Bible College. “In our Bible studies, we learn about trusting in the promises of God and how to obey God. It allows us to share our thoughts and ideas on how to better ourselves and how to better others.”

Directed by Elder Oscar Owens, West Angeles Christian Education offers three levels of study:

Sunday School – West Angeles’ Sunday School has introductory-level courses for children, youth and adults which are designed to provide a deeper knowledge of the Christian faith. Geared to help students overcome life’s obstacles and daily issues, the roster offers a variety of classes for children ages 5-12 years of age, and youth Classes for ages 12-16 years of age.

Adult Sunday school classes include the New Members’ Class, which gives an overview of the principles of the Christian faith and COGIC history; Power for Living, which familiarizes students with the power and principles of the Holy Spirit and how to live a Christian life; The Total Man, which teaches men how God’s Word fills all of life’s needs; and Virtuous Woman Bible Study, inter-generational sessions which show women how to grow in Christ while mentoring younger women.

School of Practical Christian Living – A mid-level study program, the School of Practical Christian Living introduces systematic Bible study and foundational biblical knowledge. Designed for those who desire to become more effective as a parent, spouse, or worker for Christ, the classes include: “What Am I Called of God To Do?”,“Financial Success How-to,” and “Foundational Studies for Aspiring Missionaries,” one of several certificate programs offered.

West Angeles Bible College – The Bible College provides college-level study in biblical, historical, and theological foundations of the Christian faith. This comprehensive training provides an academic understanding of the Bible to equip individuals to competently serve and apply the teachings of the gospel to the spiritual needs of those around them.

Classes include: “The Life of Christ”,“Christian Leadership,” “Understanding World Religions,” and “Church History 1 & 2.” WABC offers certifications and diplomas, an online-portal, and read-only access to the West Angeles Reference Library.

Elder Thornton: What Am I Called of God To Do?

You’ve been attending church, enjoying the mighty choir and the moving sermon each Sunday. But you want to be more than one who just comes to Church and leaves until the next scheduled worship time. You’ve given your life to Christ, but now you may wonder, “What does He want me to do for Him? How do I find my place in the church?”

The Apostle Paul wrote in Ephesians 4:1 (NKJV),
“I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called.”

Your vocation is your total life’s calling. It includes every aspect of your life, such as your occupation (your job), your avocation (your hobby), your family and your ministry.

What You Can Give God for His Service

1. YOUR HEAD – “I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.” Romans 7:25 (NKJV)

2. YOUR MOUTH – “And for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel.” Ephesians 6:19 (NKJV)

3. YOUR WATCH – “Take advantage of every opportunity because these are evil times.” Ephesians 5:16 (CEB)

4. YOUR HANDS – “We work hard with our own hands. When we are cursed, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it.” 1 Corinthians 4:12 (NIV)

5. YOUR FEET – “I thought about my ways, and turned my feet to Your testimonies.” Psalm 119:59 (NKJV)

6. YOUR INCOME – “Sold a field he owned and brought the money and put it at the apostles’ feet.” Acts 4:37 (NIV)

Your body, like the church, is one unit made up of many members. And, like the church, God has created each member for His service.

You are fully equipped to answer His call. Therefore, God’s plan is for you to recognize your spiritual gifts, and to spend the rest of your life utilizing them in the ministry of reaching and teaching your generation for God.

“May God richly bless you” is my prayer for you.

Westa.org honors Elder Ronald Thornton, West Angeles’ faithful servant and former long-time instructor of “What Am I Called of God To Do?” Elder Thornton uses the spiritual gift of teaching to prepare others for the life God has called them to. He received his B.A. from the University of Alaska and was ordained in 1975. Rev. Thornton served as Dean for the CH Mason System of Bible Colleges, and as Principal of the West Angeles Christian Academy. He was promoted to Facilities Manager for West Angeles Church of God In Christ, where he also teaches the popular class, “What Am I Called Of God To Do?” Elder Thornton is now retired and lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Louise.
