Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti’s “Safer at Home” Emergency Order calls on Angelenos to stay in their residences and limit all activities outside their homes beyond what is absolutely necessary for essential tasks. 

The Mayor is extending the Safer at Home Order to May 15, 2020, based on the advice of the Department of Public Health. Nonessential businesses will remain closed; physical distancing & face coverings will still be required for workers and customers of businesses that are still open.

In response to small businesses affected by COVID-19, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has created the Small Business Recovery Loan Program, administered by the Los Angeles County Development Authority (LACDA). • LA EMERGENCY CHILDCARE CONNECTION: In order to make sure medical care workers never have to miss a shift because of lack of childcare–especially the folks that ensure hospitals continue to run such as admin staff, janitorial staff, and others—the Mayor’s Fund is working with unions and hospitals to provide stipends, referrals and care for their children.
• SOUTH LA WALK-UP TESTING FACILITY: The City is launching a new walk-up testing site in South Los Angeles at the Kedren Community Health Center.  Most of the City’s testing sites are drive-through sites, where people are tested from their cars. Recognizing that many people don’t have cars, we are opening a second walk-up site in an area that serves the African American Community. You must still make an appointment at coronavirus.lacity.org

• COVID-19 MYTHS: To dispel misinformation, we have launched a site that sets straight common myths about the coronavirus and the City’s response: Coronavirus.LACity.org/Myths
• LAUSD CLOSURE EXTENDED: LAUSD announced that schools will remain closed through the summer.

• Los Angeles is sending additional resources to African American and low-income Communities
• The City is opening up a second walk-up testing clinic in South LA
• Through the City and County’s network of testing locations, we are administering 6,500 tests daily; TOTAL tests administered to date: 46,000
• REMEMBER: Testing is only granted by appointment only. Testing is available for anyone EXHIBITING symptoms. We are still prioritizing people over the age of 65, however, anyone showing symptoms can now request a test at coronavirus.lacity.org

The USCB announced it is extending self response to Oct. 31. It is seeking Congress approval to provide them with authority to deliver data to President on April 30, 2021 and to States no later than July 31, 2021.  Safe, easy, and secure: complete youe census HERE.

The goal of L.A. Protects is to work with local manufacturers – who are not already in the protective gear supply chain – to produce five million non-medical masks, which can be used by workers in essential sectors, non-medical staff in hospitals, and medical patients across the City of Los Angeles. Our partner Kaiser Permanente developed the design specifications for the non-medical masks. Our partner Reformation is providing their expertise in garment and apparel production by providing quality assurance checks and building out funding and in-kind support for this initiative.
